Launching of The Drivers of Ageism report
On 28 September 2017, in the lead up to 1 October International Day of Older Persons, The Benevolent Society launched The Drivers of Ageism report.
The audience heard from CEO of The Benevolent Society, Jo Toohey; Age Discrimination Commissioner, The Hon Dr Kay Patterson; and social commentator, Jane Caro on why it was important not just to understand the impacts of ageism on older Australians, but also to unpick the attitudes and beliefs that lead to ageist behaviours.
The launch caught the attention of mainstream and trade media, and foreshadowed the launch of the EveryAGE Counts campaign to come.
A seven-minute video about the research findings was produced and screened at the launch. It features interviews with CEO of The Benevolent Society, Jo Toohey, Age Discrimination Commissioner, The Hon Dr Kay Patterson, and social commentator, Jane Caro, as well as with many ordinary Australians of different ages.
