LASA joins EveryAGE Counts
The organisational membership of the EveryAGE Counts campaign continues to grow. Below, you can hear from Sean Rooney, the CEO of Leading Age Services Australia (LASA), on why they've taken the pledge to address ageism.
Leading Age Services Australia (LASA) is proud to be a Coalition Member of the EveryAGE Counts Campaign.
LASA is constantly calling the nation out on ageism, on respect for our elders and on the inconvenient truths of ageing in Australia.
With the significant shifts in demographics as our population ages, the Aged Care Royal Commission has found “Australia has drifted into an ageist mindset that undervalues older people and limits their possibilities”.
This represents missed opportunities for our country, both economically and socially. How we consider and care for older people speaks to who we are as Australians.
The reality is that our nation has reached a “new normal” in regards to older people in our communities.
While our population ages, we are presented with a plethora of issues that are calling out for national leadership and national action.
A new approach is required, that meets the needs of every older Australian, regardless of their social status, economic situation or location.
If we are going to realise the outcomes that we truly desire for better ageing in Australia – and this will affect every one of us – we must encompass every community, learn from the positives and undertake this together.
We are saying to all Australians — you matter, what you do in your life matters, and as you age, we as a nation are here to support you to continue to matter.
